How is Glass Painting Done?

The process of glass painting usually starts with etching a full size working drawing. Using this drawing as a template, the glass is selected and cut, and each piece of glass is individually painted using glass paint. The paint is then fired into the surface by heating the glass to approximately 650 degree centigrade in a furnace. When all of the glass has been painted it is assembled into lead panels.

  • The glass surface has to be absolutely clean for, the glass paint won't stick on a dusty surface.
  • It is wise to trace the design in case you are not good at freestyle sketching.

  • Make sure the glass is kept intact until the paint dries as even the slightest movement of glass can lead to color smudging.
